Decarbonisation

The increasing concentration in the atmosphere of carbon dioxide emissions resulting from human activity is considerably accentuating the greenhouse effect responsible for climate disruption. To reduce this phenomenon, the European Union is committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, and thus becoming the first climate-neutral continent. In addition to better protecting the planet and our health, carbon neutrality would also enable greater strategic independence by reducing the need to import fossil fuels, preserving resources in the face of their increasing scarcity, and protecting the purchasing power of Europeans and the competitiveness of businesses.

In line with this commitment, and as an international player in the industry, GROUPEMECA has set itself the target of reducing its CO2 emissions by 60% by 2030 (compared to 2019). This decarbonisation process began in 2015 with the installation of more than 1.900 photovoltaic panels at two of its Belgian sites, and continued more recently with the exclusive supply of green energy at its sites in Wallonia.

The next major measures implemented by GROUPEMECA in this project are to align its companies' energy contracts to consume only green energy for its electricity needs, as well as to gradually replace its vehicle fleet with a hybrid fleet.
